Private Swimming Lessons

At Your Home 

Swimming, being comfortable and safe in, on and around water and knowing what to do in a water-related emergency are important skills for everyone to learn. These are skills that can last a lifetime and can bring fun and enjoyment to experiences in and around water.

  

 

HOW IT WORKS 

 

 

The swim lesson program is:

 

 

-At the convenience of your home pool in Pasadena and surrounding areas

(please ask about lessons outside of this area)

                                 

 

-Available:

Now thru September, 2008

7 days a week

you schedule the swim lessons on any of the months & days above at the times that work best for you

 

 

-In sessions of eight lessons 


 

-Available at a 60-minute minimum 

(except for Parent & Me classes)

60 minutes can be divided into two half-hour lessons, 90 minutes can be divided into three half-hour lessons, etc. Half-hour lessons are recommended for ages 6 months to 3 years old

 

 

-On a one-on-one basis     

with the exception of Parent & Me classes

 

 

-A structured program AND customized to meet individual needs. 




 

Note: water temperature must be between 85-90 degrees. 

Small bodies get cold fast. Children are able to focus on learning when their focus is not on feeling cold. Water temperature must be 88-90 for infants, toddlers, small children and all children who are fearful of the water.




Lesson Descriptions


Please Note:

Submersions are 

always voluntary.

Students go under water 

only when 

they decide they are ready to.

 

 

 


Level 1: Introduction to Water Skills

(3 years old and up) 

Lessons focus on child becoming comfortable in the water. Skills taught include bubble blowing, underwater exploration, front & back glides, front & back kick, arm movement, and front & back float. All skills include instructor support.




Level 2: Fundamental Aquatic Skills

Lessons focus on child accomplishing Level 1 skills without instructor support. New skills taught include float and recovery to a standing position,glides, front & back arm motion, front & back flutter kick & introduction to rhythmic breathing.

 

 


Level 3: Stroke Readiness

Lessons focus on coordinating the front & back crawl. New skills taught include elementary backstroke kick, butterfly kick & butterfly body motion. Side breathing with front crawl & treading water are introduced. Beginning diving skills may also be introduced depending on depth of pool (9ft minimum).

 

 

 

Level 4: Stroke Development 

Lessons focus on developing confidence in the skills learned and improving front & back crawl strokes. New skills introduced are elementary backstroke, breaststroke and scissor kick. 

   

 

Parent (or Caregiver) & Me

Level A

(ages 6 months to 3 years)

This course is designed for parent/child interaction. Class focuses on child becoming comfortable in water. Emphasis is on bubble blowing, front & back glides, front & back kick, arm movement, and front and back float. All skills include parent or caregiver support.

 

 

 

Parent (or Caregiver) & Me

Level B

(ages 6 months to 3 years)

This course is designed for parent/child interaction. Class focuses on child becoming comfortable in water. Emphasis is on bubble blowing, front & back glides, front & back kick, arm movement front and back float and underwater exploration. All skills include parent or caregiver support.

 

 

All levels include 

age-appropriate 

water safety instruction

 

 Beginner to advanced levels are also available for teens and adults.

 

Please note:

Lesson descriptions are guidelines only. While the focus of each eight lesson session is to complete the skills of a particular level, please remember that all children are unique and learn at different rates and in different ways. All skills from a particular level may or may not be completed in one eight lesson session. Also, the lessons are always customized to meet individual needs. This means that different skills from different levels may be taught during a session.
